Dear Mr. Potter

King’s Cross Station
Platform Nine and Three-Quarters

1st September 2017

11am

Dear Mr. Potter,

Today, the Hogwarts Express leaves again
Swarms of students board the scarlet train
And I reminisce, of a childhood spent
Reading of beaded bags and Perkins’s old tent
Of Dumbledore’s wise words and tales of love
I reminisce, of dreams I dreamt
Of changing staircases and the owls we sent
Of stumbling by chance, upon the Room of Requirement
Of lost diadems and stolen things – but like Luna said
Those things always come back in the end

I reminisce, of the places we have been
Of the friendships that were forged therein
And undeclared, maybe clandestine
There’s a thought, a feeling deep within
That though ridiculous, does dare
To fancy, to hope, to even believe
That indeed, there is magic everywhere
In empty hearts, in the smiles we wear
On sultry days like a whiff of air
In the castles, we learned to call home
The passion and the thrill of broomsticks flown
In the winding paths we traverse alone
To search for magic under unturned stones

Today, the Hogwarts Express leaves again
Swarms of students board the scarlet train
And I reminisce, of a childhood spent
Finding meaning, in Amortentia scents
And as I open a familiar hardback, at 11 am
I too board the train with them. Again.

Love,
Yet another Potterhead
