Memorise

Why is it that you best memorise

The sight of looming shadows on starless nights

The odd shape of trees that obscures the skies

The sound of eerie silence slashed by distant cries

Why is it that you best memorise

Those memories where revisits, you most despise

The nightmares you wish you’d forget by sunrise

The worries you hoped, wouldn’t nag you in time

And every other night, as you close your eyes

In your head, the thoughts whirl – worrisome, unorganised

For how else do unwanted memories disguise?

And in the flashbacks, you surmise

That we’d be better off, not having it all

Memorised.
