The Cage

A weary soul in the same old cage
With drowsy eyes that forever gaze
At the same old unread, unturned page
Oblivious to passions once ablaze

In circles it goes, in spirals too
Another day, another deja vu
What other choice but to continue
The mindless work, for there’s no rescue

Some day, when a spark will catch our gaze
Perhaps, that day, the dreams we’ll chase
Past dewy lawns in the wintry haze
Will free us from that imagined cage.
