Poetry and Science

I let my unceasing flow of thoughts fall into syllables
crystallising
into poetry, as a thousand meanings diffract
I think poetry is art, but I wonder if it is science too
embellishing
papers, of which I can’t give you an abstract
Do you see poetry in the structure of geosmin in plane
aromatising
the compound that gives us the scent of the earth after it rains
Do you see poetry in the neuronal dynamics I recall
summarising
how I leave behind memories in the crevices of these walls
Do you hear poetry in rules of the atomic octet
singing
to you crescent melodies, in rhymes that are dulcet
Do you see poetry in the junctions in diodes emitting light
diffusing
through membranes like emotions through the fabric of spacetime
I let my unceasing flow of thoughts fall into syllables
crystallising
into poetry, as a thousand meanings diffract
I think poetry is art, but it probably isn’t science
embellishing
papers, of which I can’t give you an abstract
I think I should break free from my reverie
questioning
in falling spirals – do you think science is poetry?
